Two specialist training areas feature in the A+ syllabus, of which passes in both are needed to be considered A+ qualified. Once on the A+ training course you will learn how to build computers and fix them, and work in antistatic conditions. You'll also cover fault-finding and diagnostic techniques, both remotely and via direct access. Should you be thinking of taking care of computer networks, add the excellent Network+ to your A+ course. This qualification will put you in a position to get a higher paid position. Alternatively, you may prefer the route to networking via Microsoft, in the form of MCP's, MCSA or the full MCSE.

Don't accept anything less than the most up to date Microsoft (or any other key organisation's) accredited exam simulation and preparation packages. Don't fall foul of depending on non-official exam preparation systems. The type of questions asked can be quite different - and sometimes this can be a real headache once in the actual exam. As you can imagine, it is vital to know that you're completely ready for the real exam before embarking on it. Rehearsing mock-up tests adds to your knowledge bank and helps to avoid failed exams.

It only makes sense to consider retraining paths which will move onto commercially approved exams. There are loads of trainers pushing unknown 'in-house' certificates which will prove unusable when it comes to finding a job. The main industry leaders like Microsoft, Cisco, Adobe or CompTIA each have widely renowned proficiency programmes. These big-hitters will give some sparkle to your CV.
